Collab In Burundi

This project is the international extension of the Blue Forest Foundation’s ten years of professional work, with the aim of establishing the foundations of a neuroinclusive, nervous system-friendly environment in Hungary and now in Bujumbura, Burundi.

Endre is travelling to Burundi as part of this initiative, marking a significant step in the Foundation’s journey. Over the past decade, our work in Hungary has focused on making environments more understandable, supportive, and safe for children with sensory processing differences and their families. Through collaboration with schools, kindergartens, families, and professionals, we have developed an approach to accessibility that operates on a nervous system level. This knowledge is now moving beyond the context in which it was originally built.

Autisme Burundi

The work in Burundi represents a natural continuation of this process. It takes place in a setting where even basic services are limited, and where structured support for neurodivergent children is largely absent. In partnership with Autisme Burundi, the goal is to co-create a school and a development space that respond to local realities. The intention is not to transfer a pre-existing model, but to build a functioning and sustainable solution together with the community.

For the Blue Forest Foundation, this step carries particular significance. The professional foundations developed over the past ten years are now being applied in an international context. Accessibility, in this sense, is not limited to removing physical barriers. It involves understanding how environments can support the regulation and safety of the nervous system. Introducing this perspective in a context of limited resources carries amplified impact.

The ultimate volunteer

Endre’s presence on the ground represents this work in practice. The process involves construction, relationship-building, learning, and continuous adaptation. It initiates a collaboration that has the potential to create long-term impact within the local community. For the Foundation, it marks a transition from local implementation to a broader scope, where each carefully designed space, each piece of shared knowledge, and each relationship contributes to meaningful and lasting change.
